Life Care Center of Sierra Vista, Arizona, held a chili cook-off on March 14, 2015, to raise money for its American Cancer Society Relay For Life team, the Life Care Angels.


Participants included Gilbert Bice, marketing director, Corrie Killingsworth, business office manager, David Jones, service manager of Sierra Toyota, as well as associates from the local Kindred skilled nursing facility and Valor Hospice. Visitors and associates purchased bowls of chili and voted for their favorite.


Bice won first place for his Fritos chili. Valor Hospice took second prize for its smoked beef chili, and Kindred placed third for its red wine chili. Other entries included a white chicken chili, ground turkey chili and three-alarm chili.


“It was amazing to win first place at our facility’s event in order to raise money for such a great cause,” said Bice. “Knowing that all the participants and voters appreciated my chili and that everyone had a good time made it all the better.”


Bice shared that he got his recipe from Food Network star Guy Fieri and modified it to suit his family’s tastes. His 9-year-old daughter, Miranda, helped him cook the pot for the contest.


The chili cookoff raised more than $425 toward the facility’s goal of $1,000.
